April 2007 Outcry

Second Timothy 3:1-5 declares about the season in which we live:

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.  And from such people turn away!

I find myself reliving the unspeakable agony of Viet Nam in watching Congress load the appropriations bill for the troops with so much pork no responsible President could sign it.  I imagine how they feel on the front lines because I have felt it myself a few decades ago.

The Flower Power Peacenicks of the 1960’s have matured into antiwar activists willing to leave our military hung out to dry for their own selfish purposes through their control of the Congress.  Treason is any activity which materially contributes to aiding the enemy during a time of war!  If you are in the military, and facing withdrawal for lack of funding, one whole political party is qualifying as a traitor.

David understood covenant and he experienced a traitor who happened to be his best friend and counselor – Ahithophel.  Psalm 55:12-19 records David’s prayer against the traitors that, moved God’s hand:

For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; Then I could bear it.  Nor is it one who hates me who has magnified himself against me; hen I could hide from him.  But it was you, a man my equal, My companion and my acquaintance.  We took sweet counsel together, And walked in the house of God in the throng.  Let death seize them; Let them go down alive into hell, For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them.  As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me.  Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice.  He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle which was against me, For there were many against me.  God will hear, and afflict them, Even He who abides from of old, Because they do not change, Therefore they do not fear God.

Muster the courage to pray the Psalms and watch God’s hand move upon America’s traitors!
