April 2008 Outcry

Entering the 6th day of a 21 day fast recently, I was awakened before dawn hearing, Jeremiah 5:3. I reached for the BOOK and trembled:

O LORD, are not Your eyes on the truth?
You have stricken them,
But they have not grieved;
You have consumed them,
But they have refused to receive correction.
They have made their faces harder than rock;
They have refused to return.

Jeremiah 5:3 NKJ

O Lord, you will take naught but truth
You have tried to get them to be honest,
for you have punished them
but they won’t change!
You have destroyed them,
but they refuse to turn from their sins.
They are determined, with faces hard as rock,
not to repent.

Jeremiah 5: 3 Living Bible

I groaned wondering: Why are You showing this to me? Is that my heart – the heart of my family – O God, the heart of the church – the heart of America? Thoughtful questions tumbled faster than words could speak.

Vs.1 of that chapter says, "Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem; See now and know; And seek in her open places If you can find a man If there is anyone who executes judgment/mish-pawt, Who seeks the truth And I will pardon her." (L.B. "Run up and down through every street" – search high and low and see if you can find one fair and honest man! Search every square, and if you find just one, I’ll not destroy the city!)

Vs.2, "Though they say, ‘As the Lord lives’ They swear falsely. (L.B. "Even under oath, they lie.") Do political representatives (formerly revered as honored role models) LIE when they take oath on the Bible pledging to uphold the Constitution of the United States and are found in every kind of sin disabling them from "upholding" their own lives or their own families? How then can they "uphold" the structural documents of tried and tested biblical truth of this nation? The moral integrity of many resembles Swiss cheese as their words wobble in the wind.
Truly God is looking for those who seek truth and execute judgment. Genesis 18 reveals God’s response to an "outcry" against Sodom and Gomorrah saying "because their sin is very grievous, I will go down and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it." God was willing to spare a city with grievous sin if He could find ten righteous men (vs. 32). He couldn’t so as I Peter 2:6 (Amp.) says, "He" (God) "condemned to ruin and extinction the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah as an example to those who would be ungodly." Alternative lifestyle? Unacceptable! Consequences? Yes! Hello, California Legislators and Governor! Senate Bill 777 – it’s the LAW -train up their children in moral perversion, and make them pay for it with their tax dollars to boot! Listen up: Jesus said in Matthew 11:23, "if the mighty works which were done in you" (America) "had been done in Sodom, it" (Sodom) "would have remained until this day," meaning had Sodom been exposed to the preaching of the Gospel (heard the word of God) as we have had in our country from its founding, they would have repented and turned and not been cindered! Hmmm.

Scripture reveals a merciful Father God who is actively looking at men’s hearts to see if they pursue Him in righteousness – so He won’t have to destroy the land. If He can’t find them, He is Judge and will send cleansing judgment upon the land. Longsuffering – Yes! But He comes to judge with righteousness. His eyes ARE on TRUTH.
Has church leadership been so taken with prosperity and Father’s generous heart that they have not swung the pendulum the other way and taught unashamedly that Jesus is Savior indeed – BUT – He is just as much Judge! Consequences are sure and certain for refusal to repent and turn and deliberate choices to satisfy flesh rather than satisfying God in righteousness. Consequences are a certainty!
There is GOOD NEWS in the midst of this sobriety. It is found in the little word if. God is looking for those who are fair and honest and will execute justice in prayer. If ten – if one – He will not destroy the city, the nation. Are you that one He is looking to?

Let us be those ten – that one – whose voice cries out before the Throne to effectively seek truth and execute justice praying mercy for the nation and looking to the covenant-keeping Judge of all the earth! There is a harvest to reap. Every heart is known to Him. Let ours be about Father’s covenantal Kingdom business on our watch.
