Scripture: Amos 3:1-8

Amos 3:1-8 is a very famous passage because it outlines the fact that God does nothing unless He reveals it to His servants, the prophets.  But the interesting part of this verse connects calamity with God.  Verse 6 says, “If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid?  If there is calamity in a city, will not the Lord have done it?”  Now this, of course, is in the context of a nation in covenant with God.  America has both a blessing and a problem.  The blessing is that our forefathers covenanted with God.  They believed America could be to Jesus what Israel was to the Old Covenant.  The problem stems from that covenant.  As long as covenant Israel was around, if there was a calamity in a city, they knew God was trying to get their attention.  That biblical truth has dissipated with the elitist educational enlightenment that now incarcerates several generations.  We sent our kids to college knowing God and they came home brainwashed by antichrist intellectual idiots.  They were educated out of knowing the God of the Bible through arrogant intellectualism.  And now when the God of the Bible shows His Hand, we have two generations who cannot see it and do not recognize it.  It certainly was not a problem for Amos or those in his generation.  How much devastation is required to overcome intellectual arrogance?
