SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11
Scripture: Matthew 3:7-12

In Matthew 3:7-12 we find that John the Baptist has to speak God’s Word to the rebellious. There are people who do not want to be obedient. Verse 8 tells us that fruit worthy of repentance comes with a change of mind. But for those who refuse, verse 12 makes it really clear that Jesus, after He baptized us with the Holy Spirit and fire, releases a winnowing fan that is in His hand. He goes on to say, “He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” John the Baptist came, announcing the unquenchable fire of the Lord Jesus Christ. How have we managed to miss the Kingly application of who God is by always emphasizing the Priestly and neglecting the fire? It is no wonder there is hardly any fear of God in the land. Fire is falling for those who are calling!
