Scripture: Proverbs 16:32
Proverbs 16:32 says, “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” We have a choice in how we approach life. If we want to make an impact and take cities, we need to embrace the Holy Spirit, who is going to plot out our course for us. We have a choice. We can either be a Holy Spirit-helper, trying to correct everyone’s course when they are out of line a bit, or we can encourage them to walk in the Spirit. We can teach them to love the Lord with all their heart and follow the Holy Spirit. Anybody who follows the Holy Spirit is going to find themselves first ruling themselves. When we first allow the Holy Spirit to rule, we set ourselves in a position to be an example to others and to pray the dominion of God on those who need to change but refuse. The way we qualify to impact a city is to make sure the Holy Spirit is ruling in us first. It is much easier to let the Holy Spirit be someone else’s course-corrector, than to incur a lot of anger and wrath by trying to usurp the Holy Spirit’s job. It is much easier to be an encourager and an example and to call people to come forth in the fullness of the Spirit. Allowing the Holy Spirit free reign qualifies us to bring the judicial Hand of God wherever it is needed.
