Scripture: Luke 4:5-7

In Luke 4 satan brings perhaps the greatest temptation that was brought to Jesus. He offered Jesus everything that He came to redeem without going to the cross to get it. Luke 4:5,6 says, “Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, ‘All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.’” Everything that Jesus came to redeem – all the kingdoms of the world – was offered in a moment of time if He would do one thing. And that temptation was pros-koo-neh-o, which means, ‘to bow the knee and lick the hand.’ Pros-koo-neh-o essentially means, as the puppy comes to the master for its food. What we find in this passage is the number one thing that motivates satan – he has to have worship from man. He was trying to get it from Jesus. But Jesus knew He could not go there. He would have to pay the price to take everything away from the enemy. The one single thing satan is after more than anything else is worship.
