Scripture: Deuteronomy 26:1-10,16-18

In Deuteronomy 26:1-10 we are introduced to the law of the tithe. Abraham tithed before the law was given. But after the law came, there were some guidelines brought forth in the tithing. They were to go to the place where the Lord’s name was and the priest would take the basket out of their hand, set it down before the altar of the Lord and proclamations and declarations would be made. The important parts of this passage are verses 16-18 which say, “This day the Lord your God commands you to observe these statutes and judgments; therefore you shall be careful to observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. Today you have proclaimed the Lord to be your God, and that you will walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His judgments, and that you will obey His voice. Also today the Lord has proclaimed you to be His special people, just as He promised you, that you should keep all His commandments,…” This is a Hebrew hiphil causative verb. If you and I can say we listened to God and we obeyed what He said, our listening to God to sow the tithe where He wants it causes God to listen to us about the amount we ask Him for. Our obedience causes God to answer covenantally in bringing us what we tell Him we need. When I started in the radio ministry, the ministry’s budget doubled in a few months. It seemed like I was in way over my head. I felt overwhelmed. I knew I was in over my head! I felt called to go on seven or eight radio stations, and when I discovered the costs, I was stunned. In agony, I was praying, knowing I did not have the faith to pray in that size of a budget. And the Lord brought me to Deuteronomy 26 and gave me this passage. When I looked up the Hebrew hiphil causative verb, I knew that at the beginning of the month I had to ask God, “Here is the amount I am going to need for the radio ministry. So I am going to tithe on that amount up front. Tell me where you want me to sow it.” When I would write the checks and sow it, I would claim the full amount I needed for the budget based on what I was tithing. And for five years, God paid every radio bill. Every month by faith, based on Deuteronomy 26 and the covenant of the tithe, I tithed and God delivered. It is too late to tell me that tithing is not New Testament. For those years I was able to pay every radio bill based on the tithe. It is time that we sowed these promises in our hearts and acted on them! The church has lost its salt/authority. Salt comes from the two covenants of salt: tithing and the Sure Mercies of David. King David had salt. Praying like David prayed restores salt! Obey God and pray David’s prayers from the Psalms!
