Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:9

David was given a covenant of Sure Mercy and in verse 9 God said, “And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.” God’s covenant of mercy to David was that in God’s mercy He would cut off David’s enemies. His covenant mercy to David was that nobody could be his enemy and live. His covenant is our covenant and until we understand that, we cannot be ready for the battles that we face. Mercy is a concept that is very misunderstood in the church today because it is almost exclusively applied in a Priestly fashion. Mercy for David was judgment on his enemies. In order for us to start getting victories we have to understand this covenant and stand on it. King David understood it, stood on it and applied it and that is what made him great. He said, “Your mercy shall make me great” and God’s mercy did. His mercy will make us great if we let it, but first we have to understand it.
