Scripture: Judges 7:8-18

Gideon needed several more confirmations and God gave them to him by what the Midianites themselves said. Then he got the final instructions of dividing the 300 men into three companies. Verses 16-18 say, “Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers. And he said to them, ‘Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do: When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then you also blow the trumpets on every side of the whole camp, and say, ‘The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!’” Instead of a weapon, the men were given a phrase to declare. By faith each was to declare “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!” By faith, Gideon had to go to war with words. Is that a picture of what God is calling us to do? All Gideon was given was a pitcher, a trumpet and a phrase, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!” Now surely if Gideon could gain a great victory by faith with that phrase, we can gain some victory by prayer. God gave Gideon the victory. And what is said in Hebrews became true of Gideon. He framed his world by the Word of God. Can we learn that? Faith has not changed. God knows how to destroy people who are trying to destroy His Kingdom purposes. Our call is to walk in faith in the process. Gideon is an example, and rightly so.
