Scripture: 1 Corinthians 14:14-15

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 state, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.” It is interesting that if we just pray in tongues our understanding is unfruitful. So what are we to do after we pray in the Spirit? Verse 15 explains we need to expect something – understanding. God says to expect to pray and sing for corresponding understanding and interpretation. If we are going to pray in the Spirit we should expect to be praying the interpretation. That is an expectation that many of us might be unaware of, and one God wants us to hope for and pursue. Scripture makes it clear we should actively pray for corresponding understanding as we pray in tongues. If we are going to be praying in the Spirit, we should expect to pray with the understanding also. Revelation comes from the realm of the Spirit. We are supposed to take these scriptures in faith and act upon them. Let’s move forward in faith, in Jesus’ name!
