MONDAY, MARCH 19
Scripture: 2 Samuel 12:24-25

In these verses we have the eighth and final step in the restoration process. In these two verses we find King David going to Bathsheba and demonstrated to her the same comfort and acceptance that God had given to him. In that process they had another child and the Lord sent another word by the Nathan, the same prophet that brought the word of judgment. Verses 24 and 25 say, “Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the LORD loved him, and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.” The first child dies in judgment and of the second child God says, ‘I love this child.’ Why does God spare the second child? It is because this is the child of mercy. He is the child of repentance. He is the child of restoration. At this point God has now not only redeemed but honored both David and Bathsheba. Honor comes when we step into the manifestation of the redemption of the sin. There were probably a number of people in Israel that had trouble accepting that the wisest man who ever lived, the wealthiest man who ever lived came from a relationship that started in adultery and murder. It is quite a sign of how God redeems failure. Even this failure praised God eternally because the Lord redeemed it. That is what the covenant of Sure Mercy means. ‘I will not take from you what I took from Saul.’ We have that covenant! Are we accepting it? Are we walking in it? We should be!
