MONDAY, AUGUST 6
Scripture: Proverbs 9:10-12

Proverbs 9:10-12 says, ““The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, years of life will be added to you. If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.” What an amazing promise when we choose the fear of the Lord! It is holiness that helps us choose the fear of the Lord. When we choose the fear of the Lord, God says that opens the door to wisdom. That opens the door to knowledge and understanding. As knowledge and understanding come, they are the seedbed for the will of God being produced, developed, chosen and walked out in our life. Then God says, “For by me your days will be multiplied, years of life will be added to you.” As we choose the fear of the Lord it lengthens our life. Suddenly our life takes on a whole new number of days. Ellicott’s Commentary says that this phrase includes not only length of years but also “life that is worth living is to be gained.” This is about not just quantity of life but about quality too. Wisdom and knowledge literally become a preservative that sustains us and keeps us moving forward and seeking God until we know the right direction to move and when to make the move. All these promises are yes and amen, and they are available to us as we commit to the quality of relationship with God that forms His holiness in us.
