TUESDAY, JANUARY 28
Scripture: Matthew 12:34

Jesus said, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Self-righteousness often exists where we consistently judge ourselves above others! Peter was doing that but so were the twelve! They all declared their loyalty way above what it really is! This passage says, “Peter answered and said to Him, ‘Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.’ Jesus said to him, Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster, you will deny Me three times. Peter said to Him, ‘Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!’ And so said all the disciples.” What does that tell us about the disciples. This shows self-righteousness to the max. The very thing that they just declared set them up to be delivered because their denial of Christ finally broke the giants of pride within them. This was their pinnacle failure and it was what it took to baptize them in humility.
