SUNDAY, JUNE 20 HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Scripture:  Acts 12:1-2

In the book of Acts the early church literally found themselves in the very same position that the Israelites did in Egypt.  Only instead of Pharaoh’s captivity, it was the Sanhedrin executing the persecution!   Whether it is a Pharaoh, a Herod or a president, the covenant still has the same applications and brings the same deliverance.  Acts 12:1-2 states, “Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword.”  Herod killed the pastor of the church in Jerusalem.  This president and his political party have effectively killed our freedom to preach the gospel with “hate speech” legislation protecting homosexuality.  Persecution has been launched against the church.  Persecution has started and the question is now, how do we pray?   Do we pray for the enemy, who is trying to destroy us, or do we ask God to put them in the grave?  The Israelites cried out and God put the Egyptians in the grave.   We are not told how the early church prayed for Herod, but we know what the angel did!  I suppose we can only figure this out by reading between the lines and watching what God does.  When dealing with a “Herod” it seems the only way to pray is how the Israelites prayed concerning the Egyptians.  When we get to that point we are ready to move on with God!
