Scripture: Jeremiah 28:15-17
In Jeremiah 28:15-17, we find the end of a whole chapter of conflict with another prophet named Hananiah. In verses two and three Hananiah prophesies, “ …Thus speaks the Lord of Hosts the God of Israel, saying: ‘I have broken the yoke of the Kind of Babylon” The prophet Jeremiah tells Israel they have to submit to Nebuchadnezzar, and if they do not, it will be much worse for them. Finally the conflict reaches the termination stage. Has our conflict with wicked political leaders reached the termination stage? What do we do when politicians decide to support and condone homosexuality in the military? Does that bring us to the termination prayer stage? If it does not, I do not know what will. Verses 15-17 state, “Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, ‘Hear now, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie. Therefore thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the LORD.”’ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.” Jeremiah prophesied termination over Hananiah and in the seventh month, termination came. Jesus is a Savior and He is also a terminator. He terminates those who would destroy His harvest field. Many think this is just the Old Testament, but is it? Is Jesus not the God of the New Testament as well as the Old? Was he not the one who answered the prayers of the Old Testament prophets? Will he answer ours?
