Scripture: 1 Chronicles 21:21-25
In 1 Chronicles 21:21-25, David refused to use his superior office of king to manipulate Ornan out of his land. He said he would not offer God what cost him nothing and promptly paid $1,728,000 USDs for a piece of land on which to build an altar. That is the value in today’s gold: $1.7 million for a piece of land. Cheap at twice the price because it is the place where you stop the Sword of the lord and the place where you can start it. David’s obedience procured the ground upon which Solomon’s temple would be built. God redeems David’s failure by using it to reveal the site of the temple. Any temple where believers cannot start or stop the Sword is a poor excuse for what God originally intended. Through a king’s failure God revealed His intent to redeem failure and the temple of Solomon was built on the ground where the Sword was stopped.
