Scripture: Mark 10:35-37

Mark 10:35-37 says, “Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, ‘Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.’ And He said to them, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ They said to Him, ‘Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.’” What has always astounded me about this passage is that when James and John were asking Jesus for something absolutely extraordinary in every way, they asked for the most prestigious positions of authority available in their lifetime. They asked to sit one on the right and one of the left hand, in Christ’s rule, glory and reign. Their request went far beyond the imaginable, but despite that, Jesus did not say no. He answered based on willingness to obey!
