Scripture: Acts 4:27-30

Acts 4:27-30 says, “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done. Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” The early church asked for three specific things in order to be empowered to face the persecution that was coming out of their government! Those three things were boldness, stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders. The real question is, how do those three things work together to bring in a harvest? Israel grew bold when they saw the judgment of God (Numbers 33:3). Seeing the Egyptians bury their dead made Israel bold. Boldness is an asset when ministering healing. Healing is very Priestly. But the real question remains over the issue of signs and wonders. Was the early church asking for the same thing as when we ask for signs and wonders? How did they define “signs and wonders”? I often think of healing as a sign and wonder, but it is obvious, they did not have healing in mind. They had already asked for it! The real question is what are the signs and wonders that the early church was asking for? What did that look like? The answer to that question may be the one that actually prepares us to walk with the King in the last days!
