Scripture: 2 Chronicles 13:3-5

2 Chronicles 13:3-5 says, “Abijah set the battle in order with an army of valiant warriors, four hundred thousand choice men. Jeroboam also drew up in battle formation against him with eight hundred thousand choice men, mighty men of valor. Then Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the mountains of Ephraim, and said, ‘Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel: Should you not know that the Lord God of Israel gave the dominion over Israel to David forever, to him and his sons, by a covenant of salt?’” 2 Chronicles reveals the origins of the covenant of Sure Mercy for the first time. Governmental dominion was guaranteed to David in the covenant of Sure Mercy. Concerning Israel and God’s believing saints, governmental dominion is to be exercised in the midst of great adversity, giving us victory. But what kind of dominion is governmental dominion? Is it dominion over sin? Is it dominion that conquers our enemies? The answer is, both! David needed both. He needed dominion to deliver him from his own failures and set him back on the right path and he needed dominion to vanquish his enemies and give him what God had promised. Jesus died for an army of New Testament Davids. Will we disappoint Him in the last days? I trust not!
