FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 13:10-12

What does it cost to qualify for covenant? In verses 10-12, King Abijah of Judah represents the Davidic Covenant as he says to King Jeroboam of Israel, ‘Don’t go to war with us today because the difference is, we are in covenant and you are not. Our obedience to God’s revealed Word and Will, guarantees that we will win against you. If we have to sound the alarm and fight against you, you will face both us and God Himself. Any man who goes to war against us will die. You will lose, it is guaranteed – don’t do it!’ If we walk in God’s Will, and if we choose to live His righteous purpose and standard, we have a guarantee of victory. But if we do not live righteously and try to do that, we bring judgment on ourselves. This is so apparent in the warfare between Abijah and Jeroboam. It is apparent to Abijah, and he extended mercy to Jeroboam by telling him the truth. But Jeroboam did not believe it because he was deceived by his sin. What does deception do? It brings people into judgment and destruction. The destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD is proof.
