THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11
Scripture: 1 Samuel 8:4,5

1 Samuel 8:4,5 states, “Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah, and said to him, ‘Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.’” Kings were charged with judging. When God anointed someone to be a king, they received the anointing to judge. It was true of Saul, it was true of David and it was true of all the kings of Israel. That leaves us with the issue of what we must do if Jesus makes us a king in the New Testament. Will we keep the way of the Lord or will we choose the passivity of our religious tradition?
