Scripture: James 5:1-3, Matthew 6:19

In James 5:1-3 we are told what the penalty is for those who hoard wealth in the last days. Matthew 6:19 says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;…” And in James 5, we discover what the penalty is for those who disobey the Sermon on the Mount. And that penalty is, “Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.” It is in the last days that what is hoarded in disobedience will be lost. In Matthew 6, we are warned. And in James 5, we see what is hoarded will eat our flesh like fire. What has been hoarded will be lost and transferred to those who honor the Kingdom. We can start asking that hoarded wealth be transferred here and now!
