Scripture: Matthew 23:16,17

I have heard many people proclaim that tithing is not for today and we do not need to do it. But nothing is further from the truth. I have heard people ask why there is not more about it in the New Testament. The answer to that is, it was universally understood and as a result there was no need to do any explanation. The whole foundation of the financial relationship between God and man was tithing. If we are a tither, we have the five-fold blessing of the tithe. If we are not, we do not. In Matthew 23:16,17, Jesus says this, “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it.’ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?” Jesus is making it clear that tithing is not the only component in the covenant. The condition of the altar where we sow our tithe is also very, very important. If we sow our tithe in a pure altar, then that tithe is sanctified and the covenant is complete and ratified. If we sow it at an impure altar, then it is not sanctified and the covenant is not ratified. It is very important that we make sure that God gives us the go ahead to sow into an altar. Because only a pure altar sanctifies the tithe. We need to hear God’s voice on where to sow.
