Scripture: Nahum 1-3

Nahum prophesied judgment on Nineveh when it looked invincible. The walls of Ninehah were 100 feet high and wide enough for three chariots. It was considered the mightiest city on earth until the Babylonians in 612 BC destroyed it. The conversion of Nineveh in response to Jonah’s message of judgment was short-lived. In Nahum 1:1-3, Nahum is spot-on in his declaration of the judgment of Nineveh and what was coming. Verse 3 says, “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet.” The prophets had a way of declaring exactly what was coming and why. What would it have been like to live in the nation of Nineveh, hearing Nahum declare that judgment was coming while everyone trusted in their fortification? Is America like Nineveh?
