Scripture: Haggai 1:3-7

Haggai 1:3-5 says, “Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, ‘Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?’ Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Consider your ways!” Verses 6-7 made it very clear that God was trying to get their attention when He touched their finances, “You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.’ Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Consider your ways!’” The purpose of this adversity of God was to try to get the attention of a culture and a people. They were in rebellion against the King and He was the author of all their adversity. That is the message of Haggai. They had the opportunity to hear and repent but sadly they did not.
