Scripture: 2 Kings 6:13-17

2 Kings 6:13-17 says, “So he said, ‘Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.’ And it was told him, saying, ‘Surely he is in Dothan.’ Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” The king was very upset that the prophet Elisha was revealing all of the military plans. So he hatched a plot about what to do. He sent his army and surrounded the city where Elisha was. Elisha’s servant looked out and saw they were surrounded. Elisha’s response in verse 16 was, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Elisha prayed again and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes to see the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha. Did the enemy king outnumber Elisha or did Elisha outnumber the enemy king? Who outnumbers who in a spiritual conflict? What is the value of those who recognize and can bring the power of God into the middle of a national conflict? We have to step up and, like Elisha, be prepared to represent God and bring His forces against God’s enemies. The Hand of God will move in our behalf if we have the kind of integrity and relationship with Him that Elisha had. God is no respecter of persons and will give us Elisha’s anointing if we can build the foundation and character in our hearts and spirits that can stand in the fire we call down. Let’s pray in the Spirit and search our hearts and be prepared to pass any test God brings our way!
