Scripture: Numbers 14:1-4

Numbers 14:1-4 says, “So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, ‘If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?’ So they said to one another, ‘Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.’” Sons and daughters realize that when God reveals His plan, personal risk is the first issue that has to be faced. God’s will more often than not carries the potential price of great loss. If we are not willing to face the loss of all things, then we can’t please God. A primary principle of Christian history is, obedience to God risks personal loss even to the loss of life. The cross changes us because we learn to lay down our life for others. Passing the test of the cross qualifies us as true sons and daughters of the Most High God. The qualifying character trait of God’s Family is servanthood. Jesus came as a servant and we have to choose the same path! When we make this choice, we cement our place in God’s Family!
