July 2005 Outcry

Acts 13:22-23 says, "And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’ From this man’s seed, according to the promise, God raised up for Israel a Savior – Jesus – …." David is presented as a godly example for all believers. Recently the Lord challenged me and said, "You do not know David." I wanted to argue because for thirty years I have studied David in every aspect of his life from the shepherd years, the cave dwelling years, the initial season ruling in Hebron and finally the years of blessing and fulfillment.

I began to study David all over again because God was obviously trying to make a specific point. After five years of crafting a dynamite teaching called "The Sure Mercies of David," I still had missed a major point, perhaps a covenantal attitude! I thought, "What in the world do You mean – I don’t know David"? I read for thirty years, Second Samuel 7:8-9 through the eyes of religious tradition. It says,

Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, "Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth.’"

David understood God’s covenantal promise, salvation for him meant death for the enemy. He consistently asked God to bring that death so that salvation could manifest. It was a prayer he consistently prayed. Psalm 55 is a perfect example. Verses 1-6 state,

Give ear to my prayer, O God, And do not hide Yourself from my supplication. Attend to me, and hear me; I am restless in my complaint, and moan noisily, Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked; For they bring down trouble upon me, And in wrath they hate me. My heart is severely pained within me, And the terrors of death have fallen upon me, And horror has overwhelmed me. And I said, ‘Oh, that I had wings like a dove! For then I would fly away and be at rest,…’

Who of us would not say, according to verse 4, "Our heart is severely pained within us…" because of what the Supreme Court has done over the last thirty years from Roe v Wade to the removing of the Texas prohibition on sodomy. The Supreme Court has consistently baptized us in perversion from the promotion of the homosexual agenda to the ruling that pornography is free speech! When David found himself in such a place he cried out to God and said, "Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues, For I have seen violence and strife in the city." He went on to say in verses 15 and 16, "Let death seize them; Let them go down alive into hell, For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them. As for me, I will call upon God, And the LORD shall save me." When was the last time we prayed death would seize anyone? Salvation would be manifest for David when death seized the enemy! One of the implications of the Lord saying, "You do not know David" was "You do not know Jesus who comes from him." Christianity presents a Jesus who simply wants to save everyone while the truth of the matter is He is not willing that any should perish, He is also not willing that a few people destroy a whole nation while the Church sits impotently idly by and does nothing. Covenantal mercy for America means God’s intervention against our Judges who refuse to turn loose perverse, abominable, filthy and vile opinions. While our warfare is not against flesh and blood, it is obvious they have continually chosen the path of perversion. It is at this point that the Church needs to pray as David prayed, taking a stand on covenantal mercy. Salvation for the nation depends on their retirement.

Sandra Day O’Connor has, over the past few years, consistently earned consensus imprecatory prayers like Psalm 55:15. She provided the winning margin for the overturning of the Texas Sodomy Laws. She has consistently championed abortion and ten years ago when it was possible to overturn Roe v Wade, along with David Souter, crafted a compromised position and picked off Anthony Kennedy. Both she and Kennedy, in recent years, have stated the only place where there is real cutting edge activity in the Law is in Europe. When Supreme Court Justices swear an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and begin to legislate according to European standards, we have treason at the highest levels – and what is the Church left to do except pray for God’s intervention!

I’m beginning to understand David. It is my prayer that the Church will take on his attitude in the Throne Room and move the hand of God and bring deliverance and freedom to the land, making July 4th a real Independence Day!
