Scripture: Acts 12:21-23

Verses 21-23 state, “So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.”  It is obvious how the early church prayed.  They must have prayed for action.  They must have prayed like the Israelites in Egypt.  Because God dealt with Herod just like He dealt with the Egyptian army.  Just as they saw their foes dead on the seashore, the early church saw the hand of God move and their enemy dead.  As Herod reached out and touched the early church by killing James, the pastor of the church at Jerusalem, so God reached out and touched Herod.  That is biblical, covenantal justice in action!  If the congress passes laws that want to shut up the voice of the church, the church must pray that God will shut their voice permanently and forever!  We have a right to demand that the enemy be seen no more!  Anything less misses the full measure of the covenant.
