Scripture: Leviticus 2:13, Numbers 18:19

Leviticus 2:13 says, “And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt.” Just as God demanded salt to be offered with every offering, He also gave the tithe to the Levites through a covenant of salt forever. Numbers 18:19 says, “’All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer to the LORD, I have given to you and your sons and daughters with you as an ordinance forever; it is a covenant of salt forever before the LORD with you and your descendants with you.’” So whenever the priest was to salt the sacrifice, there were two things in operation. The sacrifice was part of the person’s giving and the purity of the altar was the responsibility of the priest. So whenever the priest invoked a covenant blessing, it was dependent on both the obedience of the worshipper and the integrity of the priest. When those two things came together, heaven opened and blessing came. Now the interesting part of this is, Scripture tells us it is a covenant forever. This principle has not changed. A pure altar and a pure heart open heaven!
