Scripture: I Samuel 16:7,18

I Samuel 16:7 says, “But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.’” Verse 18 states, “Then one of the servants answered and said, ‘Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him.’“ God does not value appearance or the way man looks. That is what we saw in Luke 16. God does not esteem the things that man esteems. We tend to look at the outward appearance. God looks at the heart. When God looks at the heart, does He find a man of war? Does He find a man or woman prudent in speech? Does He find the core and the character that has been shaped in His image? If He can find the core and the character of Christ reproduced then He has something to work with. Every believer is a potential King in the making, because the essence is there. The core is there. The raw material is there. All it has to do is submit for training. God is looking for people who have a heart like David. That is the core and the character. This is not a group that has been trained to only “turn-the-other-cheek”. This is a group that can both “turn-the-other-cheek” and yet have a heart for war. I trust the Lord is finding both.
