Scripture: Amos 4:1-8

Amos 4:1-3 states, “Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, Who oppress the poor, Who crush the needy, Who says to your husbands, ‘Bring wine, let us drink?’ The Lord God has sworn by His holiness; ‘Behold, the days shall come upon you When He will take you away with fishhooks, And your posterity with fishhooks, You will go out through broken walls, Each one straight ahead of her, And you will be cast into Harmon,’ Says the Lord.” Amos 4 gives us a picture of how God works and how He operates. He says, “I will take the wicked away from among you.” In verses 12 and 13 we are told, “’Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; Because I will do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!’ For behold, He who forms mountains, And creates the wind, Who declares to man what his thought is, And makes the morning darkness, Who treads the high places of the earth— The Lord God of hosts is His name.” God says to people in a generation, “You had better prepare to meet Me.” He then creates the disaster that forces them into that place where they must make a choice. They must either choose Him or choose to work against Him. Unfortunately for us it appears that many nations consistently have chosen to walk against Him. It is time the unrepentant leaders of wayward nations see the Creator who is the Judge of all the Earth and who has a special, creative judgment with their name on it.
