Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-11

Layer Four of God’s love is called affliction. The entire chapter of Hebrews 12 is devoted to this dimension of who God is in our lives. Verse 5 makes it clear we are not to despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when we are rebuked by Him, for whom the Lord loves He chastens and scourges every son whom He receives. So it is obvious in Hebrews 12 that there is a forth layer of God’s love and it finds every believer at one time or another. It is called affliction and its purpose is a transformation from the pride of the world into the humility of servanthood. Unfortunately it is difficult to teach because adversity from the enemy for obeying God can resemble affliction for disobeying God. But it is Layer Four of God’s love and Scripture has much to say about this dimension and its impact in the last days.
