Scripture: Ezekiel 13:17-19

Ezekiel 13:17-19 says, “Likewise, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart; prophesy against them, and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Woe to the women who sew magic charms on their sleeves and make veils for the heads of people of every height to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of My people, and keep yourselves alive? And will you profane Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, killing people who should not die, and keeping people alive who should not live, by your lying to My people who listen to lies?”’” Every time I read verse 19, it is both stunning and amazing. It reveals the Heart of God. When we refuse to compromise on the Word, it extends the life of the righteous and it shortens the life of the wicked. God’s Word, when preached in its entirety, without white-wash, shortens the life of the wicked. It is amazing. That means there are people that God’s Word proclaims should not live. There are those who are so filthy, vile and abominable in their choices that they should not live. The God we serve is a God of life and a God of justice. His justice visits people who choose to become His enemies. Justice dictates, when people become enemies of God who hinder God’s harvest, they no longer need to live. They should not live. There is a place to pray judicially that God will remove people who champion evil! Our prayer should be, ‘God, remove those who champion evil, before they destroy our harvest!’ But what does the tradition of the church do? Tradition, in effect, extends the life of the wicked and consequently, shortens the life of the righteous. Do we think that way in the New Testament? Jesus has not changed. Why have we? Tradition makes the Word of no effect!
