Scripture: 1 Timothy 1:18-20

In 1 Timothy 1:18-20 we are told, “This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.” It is obvious that we completely discarded 1 Timothy 1:18-20 as the proper context for prayer for leaders. The immediate, contextual platform for 1 Timothy 2:1,2 are the last three verses of 1 Timothy 1, and they are all about judgment and warfare. Are there politicians who have rejected the faith? Absolutely and we do not act in wisdom when we automatically pray blessings on them. They champion abortion, they champion homosexuality. They have completely and totally rejected the faith. How did we take 1 Timothy 2:1,2 out of context and extend the life of the wicked and shorten the life of the righteous? We did it out of tradition and it is time that tradition changed!
