August 2014 Outcry

Righteous believers cannot help but be burdened by the condition of America. Every time Israel determined to disobey God, great national tragedy resulted. God says, do not shed innocent blood – 55 million babies later, a spirit of murder has been released in the land and those responsible want to blame guns. The Lord said to me a decade ago, ‘No nation that chooses to kill the children they do not want can protect the children they do want!’ God says homosexuality will destroy every person who chooses it and, eventually, the nation that approves it! Many of America’s judges are choosing destruction at a rapid rate. Our prayers are needed now more than ever!

Genesis 12:3,7 says, “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you;…To your descendants I will give this land.” Any person or nation that wants to be blessed had better keep this in mind in their stance toward Israel. To curse Israel or curse the church is a recipe for disaster. But nevertheless America’s president has pursued policies advancing Islam and challenging Christianity. A war won in Iraq was knowingly turned from victory to defeat – and it seems to those of us who fought in Vietnam, that history repeats itself. There is one constant – the same political party who spat on my generation of warriors is doing it again on this generation’s warriors’ sacrifices by giving what they won with their blood back to the enemy! Jesus said we would know men by their fruit, not their words! When the fruit of a person or political party is treason to God’s cause, that opens them to God’s judgment!

Saul and David were two kings who both sinned grievously against God. One was restored and one lost everything, dying a dishonorable death in great sin. But what was the difference? Four chapters before David’s plunge into adultery with Bathsheba, God visited David and extended a covenant of Sure Mercy. 2 Samuel 7:15 promises, “But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you.” Both Saul and David were human and both succumbed to human failure. The difference in how they walked out their destiny was based on one prevailing issue – God’s covenant. One had it and one did not!

According to Acts 13:32-34, Jesus shed His blood to provide that same covenant to all who would say yes to Him. The historical documents of America record some very good news! They acknowledge God as our Creator. Liberal historians have labeled America’s founding fathers as “deists”. The more I read of the actual quotes of America’s founding fathers, the more I disbelieve liberal historians. On April 24, 1803 writing to Dr. Benjamin Rust, Thomas Jefferson stated,

My views…are the result of a life of inquiry & reflection, and very different from that anti-Christian system imputed to me (deism) by those who know nothing of my opinions. To the corruptions of Christianity I am indeed opposed; but not to the genuine precepts of Jesus himself. I am a Christian, in the only sense he wished any one to be; sincerely attached to his doctrines, in preference to all other…

America’s founders incorporated Christianity covenantally into America’s founding documents! John Quincy Adams, America’s sixth president, on July 4, 1837 said as much in a speech in Newburyport, MA,

Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon the earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity, and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies, announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Savior and predicted by the greatest of the Hebrew prophets six hundred years before?

The difference between David and Saul was covenant, just as the difference between America and many other nations is covenant, if we accept the words of our founding fathers.

Knowing out nation was founded on covenant, what manner of people should we be? The kind who remind God weekly that our nation has sinned, wicked rebellious men now rule, but the Creator is bigger than all of our failures. Covenant coupled with repentance, saved David. He repented and so can we! By asking God to restore America, we can ask that He remove the wicked while regarding the righteous. May the fear of the Lord once again return to America and may we finish our assignment as David did his! May America finish its God-given task of helping Israel until they are grafted back in as Romans 11 declares.

Is there grace for America? Covenant declares it and David’s life proves it. So let us declare it!
