Scripture: Exodus 32:7-10

In Exodus 32:7-10 we are told, “And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, “This is your god, O Israel, that brought you out of the land of Egypt!”’ And the Lord said to Moses, ‘I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people! Now therefore, let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them. And I will make of you a great nation.’” God revealed to Moses that people had sinned. They violated tsed-aw-kaw – or righteousness. And God’s final note was, “…let Me alone, that My wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them…” and start over with you, Moses. What was God doing? God was alerting Moses to the fact that tsed-aw-kaw had been violated. But Israel had a covenant – therefore Moses could go to God and remind Him of the covenant and gain mercy for the violation. The question was, what would Moses do? Did Moses stand on Abraham’s covenant? I suppose that is the question today: what will we do? Will we stand on the Abrahamic covenant that was bought by the blood of Jesus? Will we stand for covenant justice? Will we stand on salvation and do what Moses did? Did Moses obtain forgiveness for the nation, and at what cost? He had to separate the righteous from the wicked. But that was the whole reason that God knew Abraham. Abraham would train his children how to walk with God in what was right. And what is right is that we separate the righteous from the wicked so that the judgment falls on the wicked while sparing the righteous. Abraham learned it and Moses learned it. Will we learn it in order to participate?
