Scripture: John 1:19-23

John 1:19-23 says, “Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, ‘Who are you?’ He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, ‘I am not the Christ.’ And they asked him, ‘What then? Are you Elijah?’ He said, ‘I am not.’ ‘Are you the Prophet?’ And he answered, ‘No.’ Then they said to him, ‘Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?’ He said: ‘I am ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” John was honest. What is the church looking for today. Most are not looking for someone who makes straight the way of the Lord. They are not looking for someone to tell them the truth. They are looking for a kind, pleasing and happy word. They are looking for a gentle pat on the back and a blessing that will get them from one Sunday to the next. They are looking for teaching that itches their ears. They are not looking for reality as much as they are looking to maintain the comfort of the status quo. Will we settle for lukewarm Christianity? Will we settle for partial or compromised truth? Do we want itching ears or hearing ears? Or do we want them scalded by the fire of the Word? Will we press in for what prepares us to meet the Lord? If we demand what will prepare us to meet the Lord, then we force the leadership to do their job. Isn’t it about time the church forced the leadership to do their job? It is time that we stood up and demanded to know about the way of the Lord and how to walk in it! It is time we get ready for the Judicial Christ. He is coming, whether we are ready for Him or not. Those of us who are wise will choose to get ready to walk with Him on that straight and narrow road. He will not traverse a crooked one.
