Scripture: II Kings 5:9-16

In II Kings 5:9-16 when Elisha heard what was going on, he sent a message to the king. In verse 8 Elisha said to the king of Israel, “Why have you torn your clothes? Please let him come to me and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” It is obvious that Elisha knows who he is, and knows that he is secure in his anointing and that he understands healing as a covenant provision for God’s people. So he boldly proclaims, let Naaman come to me. He will know there is a prophet in Israel. Translation – send him to me. God will heal him. Amazingly enough Elisha did not go to his door to meet Naaman but sent a message to Naaman through his servant. Elisha’s message was to go wash in the Jordan River seven times and his flesh would be restored. That was actually quite offensive to Naaman. It made him furious that Elisha did not come in person. Naaman said in verse 12, “’Are not the Abanah and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the rivers of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?‘ So he turned and went away in a rage.” Naaman, however, was saved by his servants. His servants wisely counseled him and said, look you have come all this way why not just do what the prophet says and see what happens. Naaman heeded their advice and went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan River and he was restored perfectly. This sets up the next test which is one that has been failed by a number of church leaders today. The failure to pass this test may be why we have little healing anointing resident in the body.
