Scripture: Genesis 1:1-10, Romans 8:19-21

Genesis 1:1-4 is a description of God’s first week in creating of the earth. In Genesis 1:1-4 we are told, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.” When God created the earth, everything He created was good. This means it was created by a God of holiness and righteousness for His purposes and as a result, the earth can only tolerate so much sin before devastation destroys it! At the point the land becomes defiled it is filled with iniquity or it has taken all the sin that it can stand and then it begins to cry out for a change of inhabitants. So the creation has some of the characteristics of the Creator. Like God Himself, it was created in righteousness and holiness. The earth can only stand so much defilement and then it begins to cry out for deliverance. Fullness of iniquity is the primary judicial trigger in Scripture. Whether it is with people, with creation or with cities, states or nations, fullness of iniquity is the precipitating point of judgment that allows one group of people to conquer another. Once we realize that, it is sobering how full of iniquity our nation currently is.
