Scripture: Genesis 1:26-28

Genesis 1:26-28 says, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” God created man in His image and likeness and He gave man dominion. Why is there death and life in the power of the tongue? We are created in the likeness of God and He gave us dominion, so our words create life or they create death. That is why we must put a bit and bridle in our mouth and start to agree with God’s Word. It is the only wise and prudent way for believers to live. When we apply the bit and bridle to our words and move toward purposefully speaking biblical truths, it is important to give ourselves grace for the growth process. If we falter and return to speaking discouragement and negativity, we do not want to end up in guilt and condemnation. Psalm 94:18 says, “If I say my foot slips, Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.” Each time we falter we want to regroup and refocus on the Word. Our Word-journey should be about moving forward and upward and not being short circuited when we falter.
