Scripture: Romans 12:1-3

Romans 12:1-3 says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.” If we do not put the bit and bridle in our mouths, then we will be like unbelievers in the world. If we refuse the bit and bridle, we will say whatever comes to mind. The problem is, the enemy often feeds thoughts to us that are out of proportion or not at all true. Thoughts that contradict Scripture and contradict God’s promises are thoughts from the enemy. If death and life are in the power of the tongue, we better get started believing it and we need to transform our mind by accepting what God’s Word says and align with it! We need to make a habit of speaking and declaring His Word because His Word is truth. Jesus even said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Are we going to be obedient to God’s Word or do we think we can violate it without any repercussions? Romans 12:3 says we need to learn to think soberly because God has dealt to each of us faith. Faith to change means faith to grow into the image and likeness of God. And faith to change demands that we put a bit and bridle in our mouth. Even if our attitude does not feel positive, we need to put God’s Word in our mouth and agree with it by what we say. We have to choose to reject what the world has to say about us and reject what the enemy says about us and agree with what God says about us. God’s Word says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us and we have to choose to believe we can actually do all things through Christ! Our lot in life will be determined by God’s call, and by what we do with that call. How we implement it and whether or not we use the principles He has ordained for us to achieve that call is of immeasurable importance. We have to learn the fact that words have consequences. We have to renew our minds to the fact that death and life are in the power of the tongue and we have to limit negative and destructive words we are tempted to speak and focus on speaking God’s promises. If we want God’s best, we cannot disregard His principles!
