Scripture: Hebrews 11:30-33

Hebrews 11:30 says, “By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.” Did God tell Joshua exactly what to do to, by faith, bring the walls of Jericho down? Yes He did. 7 days they surrounded it once each day and on the seventh day they surrounded it seven times. And after the seventh time, they blew their trumpets and shouted and our Bible says the walls went straight down. What did God’s army do then? Joshua’s men killed everyone in Jericho. Did they use their faith to restrain evil and to cleanse the land by executing judgment? They absolutely did. God called them to do it and they did. They used their faith and got what God promised. Why can we not do the same? Verses 31-33 states, “By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace. And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,…” Rahab used her faith to save her family in the midst of judgment. Faith saves families in the midst of judgment, but it also executes judgments so God’s purposes can move forward. The prophets Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David and Samuel used their faith to subdue evil and restrain it. We need to use our faith like the prophets and, at the direction of the Holy Spirit, pray people into judgment thereby releasing others into salvation.
