Scripture: Daniel 5:18-31

Daniel is used in a very unusual way in Daniel 5. What we know in the New Testament as tongues and interpretation, actually appears as handwriting on the wall when Belshazzar ordered a party for his friends and he used the utensils from the temple in Jerusalem to drink and eat from. This resulted in a phrase no one could read being written by a supernaturally visible hand, “MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.” No one could interpret it but some present remembered Daniel who interpreted a dream for Belshazzar’s father. Daniel was brought in and declared judgment on Belshazzar, that he would die that night and that the kingdom would be given to another. Exactly what Daniel prophesied came to pass and Darius the Mede received the kingdom that very night. Did the prophets subdue kingdoms? They absolutely did. Did they announce God’s transitions? They certainly did. They moved in signs and wonders and represented the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Let’s look to the prophets as examples of how to walk in faith so we can participate in bringing in the harvest God has ordained.
