Scripture: Jeremiah 5:4-6

Jeremiah 5:4-6 outlines the assignment of the adopted. It says, “Therefore I said, ‘Surely these are poor. They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the Lord, The judgment of their God. I will go to the great men and speak to them, For they have known the way of the Lord, The judgment of their God.’ But these have altogether broken the yoke And burst the bonds. Therefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, A wolf of the deserts shall destroy them; A leopard will watch over their cities. Everyone who goes out from there shall be torn in pieces, Because their transgressions are many; Their backslidings have increased.” It is obvious the wise men and the great men are the ones that understand that when men rebel then judgment comes as a correction. When we are adopted by God as members of His family we must remember that He is a holy God, and as a holy God His correction includes a variety of different judgments that restore the fear of God and restore righteousness and holiness to a nation. There is a price to being adopted by God and that is that we have to walk in righteousness and in obedience. Israel paid a price for their rebellion. Every nation that has ever walked with God pays a price for their rebellion. That is part of being adopted by God.
